Dear ASAP Member,
	AAS Special Session on Arecibo Science.  This special session devoted to Arecibo science at the 229th Meeting will occur on Wednesday, 4 January 2017 at 10:00 am -11:30 am.  If you plan to attend, please consider submitting your talk or poster to this session.  Abstracts are due tomorrow.  

	NSF AST Dear Colleague Letter.  A DCL entitled Intent to Release a Solicitation Regarding Future Continued Operations of the Arecibo Observatory was issued last week with the solicitation expected in the first quarter of FY 2017.  Full text here. 

	ASAP Board Meeting News.  

     --Prof. Brett Isham of Interamerican University in Puerto Rico was elected to the ASAP Board.

     --ASAP is soliciting member participation in the new Communications, Government Outreach, and Fundraising Committees.  
	ASAP's communication efforts need a talented webmaster and newsletter coordinator.  Contact any Board member or the 
	ASAP Secretary if you are willing to join in ASAP's work.  

     --The Government Outreach Committee seeks to identify members who are in Puerto Rico or near Washington DC, or who 
	travel to these area frequently, and are willing to participate in occasional visits to advocate for the Observatory.

     --As ASAP activities are involving more travel, ASAP is in need of additional fundraising.  Members with ties to relevant 
	foundations, community organizations, or potential supporters, we would love to hear from you.  Contact any member, 
	the Treasurer or Secretary with ideas, inside and outside the box.  

     --Please reach out to colleagues, other users and friends about joining ASAP.  There was never a time when your 
	membership and that of others was more important for supporting the Observatory!
