Dear Members,

It’s exciting to see more balanced media coverage which builds our case for a new Arecibo Observatory – not only for the scientific community, but in broader media. This creates informed public support that can turn into Congressional oversight and action. It can also intrigue other funders, whether public or private, and may even help the NSF see the light.

Please circulate these articles to colleagues and friends:

“What Makes the Arecibo Telescope Essential” <https://slate.com/technology/2022/10/arecibo-telescope-puerto-rico-rebuilt-biden.html> by Héctor Arce in Slate

Comments go right below the piece, to the right of the Facebook and Twitter symbols. Please use those, too, if you have accounts.

“Requiem for a Telescope” <https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/28/science/araceibo-telescope-astronomy.html> by Dennis Overbye in the New York Times

Comments were only open for 24 hours, but you can share or e-mail the article.

“Collapsed Arecibo telescope offers near-Earth asteroid warning from beyond the grave” <https://www.livescience.com/arecibo-near-earth-asteroid-report> by Brandon Spector in Live Science. Essentially the same article appears elsewhere too.

Share and comment icons are right below the title and summary paragraph.

Thanks for spreading the word!
