The Arecibo Science Advocacy Partnership

The Arecibo Science Advocacy Partnership (ASAP) is a team of scientists and educators from Puerto Rico and around the world, working on the long term sustainability of the Arecibo Observatory. ASAP seeks to advance the scientific excellence of the AO and to publicize its accomplishments in astronomy, aeronomy, and planetary radar. We also work to mobilize the existing broad base of support for Arecibo science within the fields it serves directly, the broad scientific community, and the general public. Please check out our full Statement of Purpose, and Statement on Assessing the Loss of the Telescope.

Our Mission

We showcase the broad impact and far-reaching implications of the science carried out with this unique instrument. We are working to toward establishing paths for the future of Arecibo and its groundbreaking science, education and outreach. You can click here for our full Mission Statement .

Join Us

To join ASAP, fill the linked form and pay the membership fee of USD15 or more (recommendation: USD50) using the Donate button below. The membership fees help ASAP to cover the costs of advocation work and, if sufficient, to award students for research work related to Arecibo legacy data.

Committees

Advocacy and Outreach
We work to advocate for the future of the Arecibo Observatory and share its unparalleled scientific and cultural impact with scientific communities, policy and decision makers, community leaders, and the general public alike.

Arecibo 2.0
We work to explore and support Observatory plans for rebuilding, keeping the need for all three traditional science areas (radio astronomy, planetary radar, aeronomy) in focus and helping foster coordination, discussions, and alternatives as and when needed.

Puerto Rican Liaison Committee
We maintain strong communication between radio scientists in Puerto Rico and ASAP, and strive to ensure the interests and voices of Puerto Rican scientists and citizens are heard as the planning for AO's future moves forward.

Tech and Admin
We manage the ASAP media resources (website, social media presence) as well as other member and financial systems.

We'd love your help! To sign up for any committee, please use this form or contact us at secretary@areciboscience.org
